There was joy at the return of the Stevenage Primary Schools Athletics Competition for the first time in three years.
Held at Ridlins Stadium and organised by the Stevenage Sporting Futures Team, 215 young athletes from 14 schools competed in a number of track and field events.
The day started with a parade around the track with schools showcasing their Commonwealth Games flags and costumes linked to the country they have been allocated before they got stuck into the competition itself.
The results were amazingly close with the combined results seeing just one point separating winners Roebuck Academy from Codicote in second, with St Ippolyts a further points behind in third.
St Ippolyts won the Year 4 group, with Shephalbury Park, Peartree Spring and Codicote all tied for second, while Roebuck, The Leys and Codicote were also separated by just two points in the combined Year 5 and 6 category.
A SSFT spokesman said: "It was fantastic to be able to get our schools back together for a key event of our competition calendar.
"The children did themselves and their schools proud, which is shown in how close the final results were."
