A disappointed Alex Revell felt his Stevenage side were the only team pushing to win the game in the second half after they were held to a dull 0-0 draw by Leyton Orient.

The wind and heavy rain made conditions tough for both sides and a dull stalemate was played out, with substitute Elliott List coming the closest to winning it when he headed over from a corner late on.

The Stevenage boss agreed the contest definitely wasn’t one for the purists and said: “I thought we started the game quite brightly and a little slide for Reidy [Jamie Reid], hoping he gets out of his feet and gets a shot away.

“They made it difficult, were very stop-start and took their time from throw-ins, everything you unfortunately expect now when teams come here.

“In the second half, for me personally there was one team that really wanted to push and we were trying to push, but just that last pass, that last ball running out of play and probably without enough quality.

“We probably had the best chance with Listy’s header from a corner. If that goes in, you win the game 1-0 and say scrappy game but you’ve won it.

“It’s another clean sheet and I didn’t really feel they threatened us at all in terms of chances on our goal.

“I’m disappointed not to win the game because I felt we were the only team that really wanted to go on and win it.”

The home side struggled to create chances throughout and Revell reflected: “The conditions were tough and you want to probably play a bit more football because of the conditions and every time the ball went forward it went out of play or went out for a throw.

“It’s tough when its like this and in these conditions you need someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck and really start to move the ball and we just didn’t do that well enough.

“Yes, we want to create more chances, of course we do. But that’s through the whole team, when the ball goes up there we have to make sure it’s retained and we can build from it, and when it goes wide go and attack the players one-v-one.

“They’re all the things we’ve got to really hammer home now over the next few days to make sure that we come to Saturday that we’re better.”
