There was no surprise who picked up the player of the match award as Blueharts ladies picked up victory in the East Hockey League.

Goalkeeper Grace Thomson pulled off save after save to hand the Hitchin club a 2-1 win against Chelmsford in Division One South.

The goals came from Nat Gilder and Helen Clarke as Blueharts moved to within a point of second-placed Bedford.

Their male counterparts though were left hugely frustrated at their inability to see the game out against Bishop's Stortford, an equaliser in the 2-2 draw coming with the last hit of the game.

James Sandford had given Blueharts an ideal start with a goal after just two minutes and they then squandered a host of chances in the first half.

They were made to pay when Stortford equalised, but Sandford restored Blueharts’ advantage and more gilt-edged opportunities were spurned before the late stoppage-time drama.

The seconds drew 3-3 at Potters Bar, while goals from Ollie Wright and Ashley Hammond saw the threes to a comfortable 2-0 win over Harpenden.

Noah Tingle put the fourths ahead at Potters Bar, only for them to concede a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw, and there was a strong start from the fifths against Royston, but they couldn’t capitalise and were defeated 3-0.

A last-minute goal denied the sixths a point at St Albans.

Paul Krishman and a brilliant goal from Edwin Robinson had cancelled out a 2-0 lead for the Saints but the hosts scrambled in a short corner to win it.

Simon Little and Oscar Galliford were on target for the sevenths in a 2-2 draw, also against St Albans, and the eighths remain unbeaten in their debut season, Harry Burgess scoring in a 1-1 draw with Saffron Walden.

Back in the ladies' section, a late Ally Antoniou goal earned the seconds a 2-1 win in a physical game at Shefford & Sandy.

Natalie Gibbs had given Blueharts an early lead only for the home side to impose themselves and level before the break.

But a penalty corner led to Antoniou deflecting the ball through the keeper’s legs to clinch the win against the bottom side.

A brilliant debut from goalkeeper Amelie Roman was the highlight for the thirds against Luton Town, who nevertheless ran out 4-0 winners.

Kaia Blake was another to shine on her debut for the threes.

The fourths went down 2-1 to West Herts, Amy Williams the scorer, and two late goals meant the fifths lost to Saffron Walden, having been 2-1 up at one point with goals from Ella Lock and Chloe Bugler.

The sixths won by the same score at Stevenage fifths but the sevenths went down to a single goal at home to Broxbourne.

The firsts went down 5-3 at Division Two league leaders Broxbourne.

Lennie McCallum had put them ahead from a short corner on nine minutes but they were trailing 2-1 at the break and then 3-1 before Joanne Biggs got their second.

Two quick goals from Broxbourne sealed the win though.

The seconds lost 4-0 at Bishop’s Stortford while the thirds had to forfeit their game with Welwyn Garden City due to lack of numbers.

The fourths were beaten 4-1 at Bishop's Stortford.

Their consolation goal came with a few minutes to go, Hetta Amiri forcing the ball in at the post.

It was a different story for the men though as they picked up a couple of very good successes.

The firsts beat Bedford 4-1 at home in Division Two with Mike Oliver (two), Aiden Parker and Niall Trimble on target.

The seconds brought back a wonderful 6-2 victory from Broxbourne.

Harry O’ Donnell hit two sensational goals from sharp angles, the first coming in the first minute, and Tom Woolley added to the tally but Broxbourne stayed in touch at 3-2 down at half-time.

However, Stevenage maintained their high energy and aggressive play in the second half and ran away with it.

Woolley netted twice more and Ryall Swartz added another to the scoreline, sealing the 6-2 win.

And the unbeaten run finished with a 1-1 draw for the thirds at home to Bishop’s Stortford in a highly competitive game.

Stevenage put in an impressive first half performance but the teams turned round with the score at 0-0.

An injury to Geoff Trew meant a reorganisation at the back and despite good work by skipper Chris Day and Pete Homfray-Cooper, it was Stortford who opened the scoring.

But that spurred Stevenage into action with Saad Huda becoming more involved.

Dickie Brendish went close but it was Jonny Swarbrick who got the equaliser after a mazy run.
