The boss hailed it as the best performance of the season, if not the result.

Stevenage did create plenty of chances but their much lauded defence coughed up a couple as they sunk to a 2-1 loss at Peterborough United in League One.

If it was a good overall performance though, who were the individuals that stood out.

I can help you with that...

Player ratings

Peterborough United (1) 2 Stevenage (0) 1

Murphy Cooper - 6

You can always point the finger when a goalkeeper is beaten at his near post, as he was for the first, but that's harsh. Problem was definitely with the outfield players. No chance really with the second either but seemed less commanding than usual.

Luther Wildin - 7

Definitely back to his calm best. I didn't feel like he was rattled at all. That could be crucial as the injuries pile up around him and he gets puts into centre-half.

Dan Butler - 7

OK, so he conceded the corner that led to the winner but I don't blame him at all. He was furious that nobody gave him a shout and when you're in doubt, you put it out. Decent for the rest of the game, only really had a five-minute wobble at the start of the second half where Boro were trying to get to grips with the Posh changes.

Nathan Thompson - 6

Came off injured after 11 minutes and it did not look good.

Carl Piergianni - 7

Much better this time round on the right of the centre-back pairing than he was at Exeter. Revell needs to come up with a solution for the next three months though. It's still not ideal.

Jordan Roberts - 7

Put himself about again, which was when Boro got on top. Has to score in the first half though, that is bread and butter for a forward like him.

Jamie Reid - 7

Desperate for that first goal of the season, maybe too much - choosing a shot over passing just after the goal - but pleasing to see him play the full 90 and pleasing to see him create chances.

Dan Phillips - 6

Got caught in possession once in the first half which should have been punished but Jones fired well over. Did some of his usual terrier-like tacking and pressing but not as noticeable as it was on Tuesday against Wrexham or up at Wigan.

Louis Thompson - 8

Always say I hate giving the man of the match to the goalscorer but he is just on the top of his game at the minute. Constantly in the thick of the action at both ends of the pitch. Looked knackered at the end which is totally understandable. Having a great season.

Eli King - 6

Too sideways and back for me, only direction he seemed to pass, which was disappointing considering the positions he had the ball. That said was constantly available to receives the pass so you know, swings and roundabouts.

Jake Young - 7

I think I said this on Tuesday but he is getting better and fitter. Still not totally at it and looked to be running in treacle when sent through at the start of the second half but his run and chance in the first were good. Only denied by a fine block.

Subs - Freestone (7), White, Simpson, Kemp, Freeman

Freestone actually did alright, proving once again that he is definitely a centre-half rather than a left-back. Should have done better with the clearance for the winner though and was the wrong person for the ball to run to in the Posh box.

White's assist for the goal was beautiful but Simpson was ineffective again while Kemp and Freeman were on too late to make a difference.

Peterborough stand-out players

Jed Steer was the main one with a couple of good saves. Joel Randall's second-half introduction and late runs to join the front players caused problems and weren't always picked up.

Overall

I can see why Revs was happy with large aspects of the performance. We've been crying out for chances to be created and they were here, in abundance.

Taking them is the next moan though, should have at least converted one before Thompson equalised.

The two goals were poor defensively. You can't allow someone that much time and space on the edge of your own box, as they did for the first, and then the corner shouldn't be conceded in the first place.

That though is dealt with by a simple shout of 'time', at which point Butler lets it bounce and then hooks it down field to end the game.

The big worry is the injuries. If they were spread across the squad, you can cope. When they are all in the same specialist position, then it's a problem. And it's only going to get worse with the inevitable suspensions that will follow.

Deserved a point, should have got all three.
