When Steve Watkins of BBC Three Counties asked the question of Alex Revell, I just smiled.

"A big game and big performances as well. I mean, I wouldn't have wanted to pick the man of the match there," he said.

I have to have a punt though but after a superb 1-0 win for Stevenage over Wrexham in League One, just who do you chose?

This is what I've gone with.

Player ratings

Stevenage (1) 1 Wrexham (0) 0

Murphy Cooper - 7

Continues to impress. Always say this but when a defence is playing so well, it's hard to rate a goalkeeper's performance. Yet there is also the argument that the defence is playing so well BECAUSE a certain keeper is behind them. He definitely is a case in point of that and made one good save to deny Ollie Palmer.

Luther Wildin - 8

Getting better and better and returning to the solid defensive player we all know him to be. One moment in the first half summed up his game when he shrugged Sebastian Revan off the ball in the corner and won the throw. It was effortless but it was superb.

Dan Butler - 8

Could almost copy and paste the above. Looking full of confidence at the moment and is playing like a man at the top of his game and in a defence that are so organised.

Nathan Thompson - 10

I said to Steve before the interviews, I knew I was going to give a 10 to  Thompson, I just didn't know which one. What more can you ask of him? What more would he have to do if this wasn't a 10 out of 10 performance? Simply brilliant.

Carl Piergianni - 8

For at least the third game this season, he nonchalantly headed the ball away from danger, basically underneath his bar. This time he had Paul Mullin breathing down his neck, didn't matter in the slightest. His head or foot was where Wrexham crosses went to die.

Jordan Roberts - 8

When he is on it, Stevenage are on it, and he has been on it for a few weeks now. Pressed, harried, ran at the defence - he will be appearing in their nightmares. Such an asset to this squad when he is in this form.

Jamie Reid - 8

Stepped out against Charlton but returned here to great effect. Only thing missing was a goal which he really should have had four minutes after Thompson's goal. The ball just wouldn't get out from under his feet. However, his tenacity and pressing won the ball back FOR the goal, his pass classed as the assist.

Dan Phillips - 9

Given the man of the match award in the ground and it is hard to argue. He was excellent throughout but the last 15 minutes especially were just immense, the epitome of the hard work that Stevenage are renowned for. But before that he was generally involved in most of Boro's flowing passing moves. He and Roberts combined brilliantly for Reid's chance above and there was other moments of quality.

Louis Thompson - 9

After seven minutes I said on the blog he was everywhere, three minutes later he pops up with the winner. He could have got a 10, Dan Phillips could have got a 10, the midfield, so often undervalued at Stevenage were pivotal in this win. We all knew he was a good player when he signed last season. Truly seeing it now.

Eli King - 7

Who knew he could deliver a set-piece like that? Two deliveries that almost produced a goal, the second, the free-kick, had Nathan Thompson inches away from converting. His passing in the loose wasn't always up to scratch though. A minor point but I don't have a reputation as a grumpy old man for nothing.

Jake Young - 7

Getting there but there was still a moment in the first half where he looked tired. A sliced clearance by Arthur Okonkwo was missed by Dan Scarr and bounced and yet he stayed motionless. He had just blasted up the pitch minutes before but overall he was OK, played the central front man role well. He's getting there, definitely.

Subs - Kemp, Simpson, White

Kemp and White had their moments but Tyreece Simpson, THAT is what I've been waiting for. Held the ball up superbly but ran at defenders too, played team-mates in and then went looking for the return and he did everything with pace. Can't be a one-off but even his cameo was excellent on a night of excellence.

Wrexham stand-out players

For all their lavishly assembled squad, it was a player that I am not overly knowledgeable about that caught my eye.

Ryan Barnett has basically come out of non-league but you wouldn't have known it. One run in the second half had him gliding past tacklers and his crosses were often dangerous. I like him.

Rest were average, but mostly because they were made to look so by the Stevenage players.

Overall

The headline was chosen because there literally is no wrong answer. You could have picked anyone and it would have been hard to disagree.

Steve Watkins and Dean Thompson were waxing lyrical about it, rightly so, Alex Revell was overcome with the emotion of it all, rightly so, and even I was smiling.

But there is always a but and it is this - I am adamant there was more in the tank, more to come.

The organisation was tremendous, the determination not to let anything slip, the desire to play forward with pace - all worthy of the utmost praise but there were times in that first half when I felt Boro had slipped into cruise control.

Wrexham didn't know what hit them and could really have been put to the sword. It didn't matter because of the way Boro defended but I truly believe they could have got two or three before half-time.

Still, that's picky and I'd bask in the glow of this one for a while if I were you. Nights like that are special.
