Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace says Wrexham are a good example for all lower league clubs of what is possible - as are they.

The two teams are set to meet in League One at the Lamex on Tuesday night, the first clash between the two for more than 12 years.

The intervening period has seen Boro firmly established as an EFL club while the Red Dragons were stuck in non-league until being bought out by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

That was in 2021 and it sparked an upward trajectory with back-to-back promotions, a show on Disney and worldwide attention.

There have been envious glances for some towards all that has come with the change in ownership, but Wallace believes there is plenty to be proud of right here in Hertfordshire.

Speaking in his programme notes prior to Tuesday's game, the Boro supremo said: "The incredible marketing machine that Wrexham have created since the well-publicised investment by their US owners is an example to all lower league clubs as to what’s possible if you have the contacts, determination and the funds.

"Their progress has been remarkable, but the higher they go the harder it will be. They will of course adjust, but there are crossroads along the way and it’s not always a given that you make the right turn.

"I think we’re a great example of that. We’ve made our fair share of wrong turns, which obviously seemed right when made, but it’s how you recover from them that’s the key factor.

"We’ve been building our infrastructure over the years. The stadium is now neat and tidy, we have training facilities as good as most Championship clubs, a strong squad and an academy that’s consistently producing young players that we sell to Premier League clubs - the most recent being Malachi Patterson to Chelsea.

"We’re really looking forward to this match. We think we’re starting to create something special and this game will be a great test of that.

"We’ll want to win and we’ll want to impress."
