Two goals from Sam Day helped unbeaten Sandon stay top in Division One of the Hitchin Sunday League.

The brace formed part of a 4-2 win away to Atletico 99 and means they have a maximum nine points from their games so far.

Owen Haynes and Robert Wilcock got the others.

Arlesey Town had a good 5-3 win away against Hitchin Rovers and the top two from last season faced each other with Coach & Horses winning 4-2 against Squirrel Taverners.

North Baldock picked up their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw away to St Ippolyts and there was a 0-0 stalemate between Troll Campbell and AC Malone.

GSS were at home against Down And Under in Division Two and were able to sneak the win in a 4-3 thriller, the winner coming right at the death.

Lewis, Jamie B, Alfie and Brad got the GSS goals.

Niche and Feed Up Warm Up picked up a point each following a 1-1 draw while The Chequers remain pointless after a 6-3 defeat against Cronies.

And despite a goal from Trae Adeyemi, Queens Herts Rangers lost 2-1 at home against The Cock.

In Division Three All Saints United were at home against Lads Speak Out.

All Saints started well and showed signs of defensive stability and calmness, all meaning LSO struggled to find an opening goal.

Connor Every notably thwarted many efforts to break the All Saints defensive effort.

The goal did come eventually and once one arrived, two more followed before half-time.

All Saints did have a promising start to the second half and when Ash Martin was brought down in the box, Jack Burridge rifled home the penalty for 3-1.

The following minutes were controlled by United who looked to find an immediate second.

But, as the game drew to a close, Lads Speak Out punished defensive errors to take the final score 7-1.

Despite the result All Saints did take a lot of positives from the game and feel that they are building towards something.

The other Division Three game was between BOCA and VFC Rovers, with BOCA making it three wins from three.

After BOCA had taught VFC a very tough lesson on life in Sunday league football during the first gameweek, they faced off again with both teams looking to carry on from their performances the week prior.

It started well for VFC with a brilliant run down the line from new signing Haydon Williams who beat two men and squared it to Lawson Farley to make it 1-0.

However, after that the VFC keeper went off injured and BOCA found their rhythm scoring five goals from some nice play down the wings.

VFC were disappointed to go in at half time 5-1 down but the players gave a slightly better showing in the second half, creating more chances and could have had two or three goals early on in the half.

BOCA however were clinical and capitalised on mistakes at the back, putting in three more goals.

However, another good finish from Farley and a well placed shot from Owen Manning got VFC two back, but some more missed opportunities at both ends left the game at that and the match finished a crazy 8-3.

The Herts Sunday Junior Cup kicked off this week with four teams from the Hitchin Sunday League having fixtures in the first round.

Lea Sports PSG fell at the first hurdle following a 5-0 defeat away to Bricket Wood Acorns.

Rovers 49 made history with their first ever victory and in doing so booked themselves a second-round tie.

Rovers totally dominated the first half of the game and deservedly went ahead on 19 minutes when Lewis McCarthy controlled a through ball just outside the six-yard box before toe-poking under the onrushing keeper.

Further pressure on the Wheathampsted 89 goal failed to reap any reward while the debutant Rovers keeper Callum Whelan had a relatively untroubled first 45, thanks to some top draw defending from Liam Thomas and Artan Mesi.

After the restart it was the visitors who took control of play and possession and they were unlucky not to level the game when a goal was ruled out for a narrow offside.

They continued to press and a few attacks later they opened their account on the day when the seemingly impermeable Rovers defence was caught napping and the ball was tapped home from close range.

To the villager’s credit, this appeared to kick start their own second half and a period of sustained pressure finally paid off when Cameron Bridger finished off a sumptuous Harrison Moore through ball to put the home side ahead once more.

In the final 15 minutes Wheathampstead failed to repeat their equalising efforts and it was Rovers who could have easily extended their lead with Moore and Rezza Rob both going very close.

In the end the 2-1 result was enough to secure victory and a place in round two.

Ashwell were at home against fellow Hitchin Sunday League side Buffs and it was Buffs who went through to round two following a 1-0 win.

There was also one fixture in the first round of the Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup and this saw Fairfield Park with an away tie against WGC Stormers.

A 3-1 victory for Fairfield saw them safely into the second round.
