Stevenage head to one of the bogey teams looking to pick up where they left off against Barnsley.

A 3-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday saw Boro play with a swagger at times, while also showing a clinical edge missing so far in League One this season.

But they have only claimed two wins against Exeter City in the 22 games played between the two since the Hertfordshire side became an EFL club and have yet to win at St James Park.

The last victory of any sort was a 3-0 success at home in 2018, Alex Revell scoring all three, and the now Boro boss would be happy with just one goal from anyone, as long as it brought three points.

He said: "We know it's a tough place. Sometimes it’s the travel and everything that comes with that but in terms of football side, I thought that last year they really turned the screw last year and played some good football at times.

"Gary [Caldwell, the Exeter manager] has worked tirelessly because he didn’t get the start he wanted last year, so to produce what he did,  personally I thought that towards the end of the season and from Christmas on, they were the best team in the division in terms of how they played.

"We know it'll be tough but we have to go there and be us, do the things that got us the result on Saturday and be better at [other] things.

"And then hopefully we’ll go down there and give everyone another performance to be proud of and get everyone smiling again."

Those things they did well against Barnsley were many-fold but none were rocket science, all were just tweaks here there and things that needed the smallest amount of care and attention.

Now the goal is to keep them going and find some level of consistency.

Revell said: "When you get chances, the more belief you get when you score. The more chances you create, the more raffle tickets you buy, the more chance you have to win.

"That was a big thing for us.

"We've been doing excellently in terms of the build-up into the final third and it was just that final touch that was lacking.

"But we had those two weeks off and they were really positive for our point of view.

"Everybody knuckled down and every session we did was aimed at situations we needed to improve – playing forward, having the confidence to play forward and run forward and join in and get numbers in the box.

"Goals and wins just bring confidence and [the win over Barnsley] was the stand-out result of the day.

"That gives you something to grab on to.

"I knew it was coming, it's just been those fine margins, and when you  take your chances, you win games."
