The climax of the Midweek Road Race League came with the usual chaos of the mob match - and some great results for individuals and clubs.

All three divisions came together for the final outing around Welwyn Garden City, bringing a field just shy of 500 runners.

North Herts Road Runners took fourth on the night, missing out on the podium by a score of 78 from Trent Park.

Their women were fifth with their first lady home being Rhia Botha in eighth, a little more than a minute ahead of Rachel Arnott in 13th.

The men came 12th with Tom Barclay's sixth-placed finish by far the best of the individual rankings.

Fairlands Valley Spartans' best females were Wendy Tharani and Clare Emmerson who came 98th and 99th.

Kirk Ndugu led the men home in 17th with Adrian Busolini 23rd and Brian Brackstone 25th.

Stevenage Phoenix fielded seven as part of the Stevenage & North Herts AC squad.
Aubrey Murray was the first orange and black vest over the line  in 36th while Alex Walsey was the first of the Phoenix contingent in 61st.

The club's first lady was Katka Kaughton in 81st while the first for SNHAC was Rebecca Pickard in 62nd.

Stevenage Striders had two of their women in the top 40, Lucy Crocker in 25th and Sharnie Davidson 10 places behind.

Abullah Athar (27th), Matthew Robinson (35th) and Helder Soares (40th) did the same for the men.

The Striders did fabulously well overall in the team competition, coming sixth, while the combined SNHAC squad were 17th, three behind the Spartans.

The conclusion of the season also saw the prize giving ceremony.

For Division One NHRR, Rhia Botha was victorious in the FV35 group, Rachel Arnott took top honours in the FV45 category while Pete Sibblett was the MV60 winner.

Ken Hall of Phoenix picked up the trophy for first male vet 70 in the race series for Division Three.

For Striders, three picked up awards.

Karl Sparks was the winner in the MV60 category in Division Three, one spot ahead of Tony Randfield, while Matty Robinson was third male overall in the division.

Spartans picked up awards for the 70-plus category in Division One. Yuko Gordon won the women's one with Jim Brown on top for the men.

Among events elsewhere was the Ultra 5k Box End Park run.

This consists of a 5k every hour on the hour for five hours and attracted Rhia Botha and Kris Whitmore of North Herts.

Botha was the first female in a cumulative time of one hour 53 minutes while Whitmore was 11th overall.

The extra-curricular activities for Stevenage Phoenix had two among the 18,000 field at the London 10k.

Samantha Webster had a strong run, finishing with a personal best time of 58:15, while Charlie Day clocked 1:21:15.

Meanwhile Joe Boe was at the Harbour Wallbanger 7k at Broadstairs, finishing in 47:52.

For Stevenage Striders, Neil McKinnon (52:46) and Chris Rowlands (43:48) both got PBs in the London 10k while Teresa Sutherill, Helen Moye, and Peter Moye tackled the challenging Dunstable Downs trail half marathon.

Peter finished in 1:47:32, securing fifth overall, Helen came home in 2:19:33 for 14th female and fourth in her age group and Teresa finished in 2:51:41.

FVS were also busy with a takeover of the Stevenage Parkrun, providing volunteers and pacers for the event.

There were 477 finishers including 39 Spartans with 25 runners getting parkrun PBs.
