The  Stevenage Mixed League had to battle with cup competitions as the main focus of clubs in another busy week.

Letchworth Garden City beat Riverain 47-46 with the four of Bob Rogan Peter Bailey, Christine Ottaway and Keith Castle getting their only winning rink, 19-7.

The club also held the preliminary round of the internal triples competition.

Winning through to the finals were Sue Sinclair, Carol Biasioli and Christopher Ottaway.

St Ippolyts had one SML fixture Very, picking up five points away to Three Horseshoes thanks to two rink wins and an overall 54-44 success.

They are still second in the league on 57 points, four points behind leaders Baldock Town, with both teams having played 13.

In the Stevenage Mixed League, Datchworth were another team who picked up a win despite just one rink success.

They won 54-37 at home to Aston thanks to a comprehensive 31-5 success for Janet Akers, Keith Smith, David Castle and Steve Chamberlain.

The Women’s County League team of Barbara Williams, Jenny Holzbauer, Jan Smith and Ann Edwards lost 22-11 to Sele Farm.

Datchworth’s women also played their first ever match in the North Herts Women’s Bowling Association’s Challenge Shield.

And at home to Letchworth Garden City, they won on two of the three disciplines, the singles and the triples, to advance to the next round.

The men followed suit with a home win over Bishop's Stortford in the County Club Championship, winning 49-40.

Baldock Town played Three Horseshoes in both the Men and Ladies County League.

The men won 38-29 whilst the ladies lost 15-21.

They played Letchworth in the county championship and won on all three rinks for a total of 88-15.

They also won a friendly match against Welwyn Garden City.

Howard Garden played St Ippolyts at home in the Men's County League.

A thrilling match saw the hosts fight back from 13-0 down to draw 15-15.

The other rink also drew, 18-18, leaving the final score 32-32.

A trip to Holwell in the SML ended with a 48-37 victory, the top rink that of Amy Bell, Michelle Carrod, David Weemys and Carl Gee who won 26-10.

A home friendly against Kimpton ended in another win, the top rink of Shane Abery, Tony Wood and Mick Abery contributing to a 96-45 success.

The first match of the week for North Herts was against an excellent team from Hitchin, and it resulted in a big 104-38 loss.

All that was despite Paul Riseborough, Mike Jeffreys and Jill Minton putting on a really good performance, losing by one shot, 19-18.

Their second match ended in a 68-54 loss to Letchworth.

Ann Morris, Sue Douglas and Tony Glenn drew 16-16 while Stephen Field, Chin Tory and Riseborough lost 15-14.

Gill Crane, Jeffreys and John Atkinson managed to score 4 shots on the last end to win 15-14.
