Alex Revell wants to add to the four transfers already made this summer - but he won't disrupt the sanctity of the Stevenage dressing room.
Having kept the majority of last season's squad, Revell has added to it with the capture of Louis Appere, Dan Kemp, Lewis Freestone and Dan Phillips.
However, like his predecessor and mentor Steve Evans, he won't sign players just for the sake of it.
The new Boro boss said: "We're always looking to make sure we keep improving but we've always said that we don't want to bring in people that aren't better or don’t add to what we've got in terms of character.
"I think we've had eight meetings, maybe seven meetings this summer and four of the players have signed. That's really good.
"When you bring them to this wonderful training ground and they see the stadium and they understand the academy have their own site it, it's an incredible club.
"So it's a nice easy sell from that aspect but what we've tried to do is show our passion for the club and our passion for how we want to play.
"But we will only bring people in that that make us stronger and if they're not out there, we've got a fantastic group already.
"Obviously we want to continue [and sign players]. There are certain areas that we know we've still got to [fill], but we also just want to make sure that we protect what we've got.
"This place is pretty sacred in terms of the changing room and in terms of what they do every day.
"They're a fantastic group, they're really tight and ultimately, you've got to earn your right to be in the team, to be in this squad, to enter that building."

The club's rapid improvement over the last few years, from League Two strugglers to League One play-off chasers, has seen their reputation improve across the football landscape, something the boss has noted in his transfer dealings so far.
He said: "When you come here, when they see the club and see what we've got, I don’t think a lot of people [know] what we have as a football club.
"It's an incredible, incredible club with the facilities we've got. The people we've got working here care for the club.
"When you see behind the scenes, you see the work that Leon Hunter does. He wants the best for the manager, as simple as that.
"He wants to support me and we've got a really good relationship with the chairman and I think people come down and see that.
"That's not soft because we're not a soft club at all. We are a strong club and we want to make sure the identity of this football club and the town stays together.
"I really believe that everyone connected with the club during this time has delivered that, without a shadow of a doubt.
"People now come now expecting to see football that's full of hard work, where everyone who steps onto the pitch gives everything.
"I'm the same. Ability wise, I wasn't fantastic, but effort and commitment, I'd always have that.
"This team has to reflect that but they should also reflect the club and the town.
"You want that buzz and people wanting to be a part of it.
"The people we've signed have had a lot of offers from other clubs and we’ve managed to sign them based on what we're telling them but also on what we've already done and on the foundations that are there.
"We just have to make sure we build on that.
"Talk is easy but we have to do everything we can with the players to make sure we continue adding to what's already been built here."
Stevenage play their first pre-season friendly in front of fans when they take on Watford at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.
