It's a sure sign that spring is here when the outdoor lawn green bowls season begins - and that also means opportunities for lapsed or novice bowlers to join a club.
Two of the many clubs to offer free open days as they head into the new campaign are North Herts and Howard Garden.
North Herts is once again looking forward to another successful outdoor season of friendly matches after enjoying their best run of victories last year.
A number of new members also joined the club as a result of their participation in the Letchworth Festival in June.
That was their 'come and try festival bowls' day and this year they have an open day planned for Monday, June 24.
Playing out of Norton Common in Letchworth, NHBC meet every Monday between 2pm and 4pm, starting on April 29.
New bowlers are welcome and all equipment and tuition is provided.

Howard Garden start their new season on Sunday and any newcomers who want to give the sport a try are most welcome.
The club will be open from 10am until late afternoon and if you can't make it but are interested, call Tony Wood on 07984 910205 to arrange a different time.
