The Herts Cricket League may have been subject to a complete washout on Saturday but that doesn't mean cricket clubs went completely without play.
Preston actually fielded their first all-girls team on Sunday. The combined U9 and U10 team faced Hitchin in a friendly.
A spokesman for the club said: "We managed to dodge the weather and get the game on and Hitchin won, but it wasn't about the result for us.
"This is a pretty significant step and one we very much hope to build on for the future and welcome more girls to the junior coaching programme.
"Both sides played brilliantly and with great enthusiasm. It was excellent to watch."
Ickleford also managed some play with their Sunday squad facing White Walkers in another friendly.
Ickleford batted first and never found it easy. Wickets fell regularly and it took a patient and determined innings from David Baker to anchor the innings.
He scored 30 and found support from Sam Guile with 22 and Charlie Jupp with 20.
However, it needed an unbeaten last wicket stand of 34 to enable them to reach any respectability at 148-9 in their 40 overs.
Ben Whelan was aggressive and made 29 not out while Roy Izzard held up an end with an unbeaten three.
White Walkers never dominated but kept up with the required scoring rate and eventually won by three wickets in the 33rd over.
George Crouch took 3-23, Michael Day 3-23 while Rajan Uppall and Izzard each took one wicket.
