Stevenage will face Crystal Palace after the first in a busy day of EFL draws.
Boro had already been placed in the same group as Wycombe Wanderers and AFC Wimbledon for the Papa John's Trophy.
And they have now seen the Eagles' U21 side added to the mix following a draw on a TV station.
The first game is scheduled for September 5 with full details still to come.
Boro reached the round of 16 last year before losing at Portsmouth.
Boro also found out the League One programme earlier and will learn their Carabao Cup first round opponents this afternoon.
