Former Stevenage defender Max Clark will be looking to make it back-to-back promotions from League Two this season - after signing for Gillingham.
The left-back was first-choice for the latter part of last year as Boro grabbed promotion to League One with a second-placed finish.
However, he was among those on the released list at the end of the season.
The Gills, thanks to a big sending spree in the January window, rose from the bottom of the table to a final position of 17th and are already being hailed as one of the favourites for promotion this season by the bookmakers.
Manager of the Kent side, Neil Harris, said on the club website: "Max is, first and foremost, a promotion winning player from last season which shows his pedigree and his calibre.
"He is a player I have tried to sign in the past. I tried to take him to the Championship but he went abroad.
"He is a left-back who can defend but he has unbelievable quality on the football. He's a good character and comes highly recommended."
Clark, who played 47 times for Stevenage last year, added: "I am delighted to sign here, it's a great club.
"I played with Robbie McKenzie at Hull too; he spoke so highly of the place and it's nice to be back with him in the same team.
"I am an attack minded left-back, I work hard and give my all. I will fight for the team and the staff."
