Stevenage will start their League One season with a points advantage over one of their rivals - after Wigan Athletic fell foul of EFL rules.
The Latics endured an awful season and were relegated from the Championship
But they will start next season in League One with four points deducted after failing to pay the players’ wages on time in May, further to previous breaches of EFL regulations.
Things could become even worse too.
Another four-point deduction has been suspended until June 30, 2024, but will come into effect if Wigan's owner, Abdulrahman Al Jasmi, fails to deposit an amount equal to 125 per cent of the forecast monthly wage bill in a designated club account by Wednesday.
The suspended deduction will also be activated if the club fail to pay its players on time at any time between now and the end of June 2024.
In a slightly futile gesture, a further three points were taken from their Championship total, leaving them with 39 points.
That was in relation to late payments in March and brings the total number of points deducted to six.
Al Jasmi was also charged with misconduct and fined £10,000 for failing to comply with the terms of the agreed decision.
Both he and the club have accepted the sanctions.
