Steve Evans gave everyone travelling south on the M6 a warning - there will be a karaoke party bus heading back to Stevenage.
Boro brought the curtain down on their League Two season with a 1-0 win away to Barrow, Jake Reeves getting the only goal midway through the first half.
It means they finish second in the table behind Leyton Orient, their elevation to League One confirmed one week earlier.
The players have enjoyed plenty of celebrations since, and will have plenty more in the weeks to come, so the drive home is simply a continuation of that.
Evans said: "The team boss doesn't exist anymore. It's the karaoke party bus.
"We're indebted to the fans but if they see the bus going slow and the lights are flashing, it's just the karaoke.
It'll be a bit of Billy Joel's Piano Man for me but there are many singers in our group that proclaim to sing.
"In all seriousness, were so proud of them as a management team and so happy for the people of Stevenage.
"And what a wonderful year they're looking forward to next year.
"I sat watching Peterborough get into the play-offs and said to my daughters that now we'll be playing Derby County.
"She said 'not the Derby?' and I had to tell her there was only one.
"But that tells you what we're going into, and it tells you that, in our chairman's words, work has to start tomorrow."
And even on the last day of the season, there were one or two that put their hands up to be counted at Barrow.
"I'm really proud of the young goalkeeper [Adam Przybek]," said Evans.
"He's making his Football League debut and I knew there was a lot of his family coming to watch as he asked for about 50 comps.
"But I was pleased with a lot of the performances and I think some players that said 'you know what, if you're going into League One, I fancy a bit of that'.
"We all understand that next year is going to be significantly harder, you just need to look at the size of clubs that we will be playing.
"If you are inexperienced, that frightens you but me? I just embrace it, bring it on.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge and looking forward to taking our little football club to the big football clubs and seeing if we can cause an upset."
