If there was one person in the Stevenage squad who truly understood the enormity of promotion to League One, it was Luke Norris.
The hometown kid, one of Boro's own, raised in Bedwell and a former pupil at Marriotts, he has seen plenty from both outside and inside the club.
And although a foot injury caused him to miss the end of the season, he was proud as punch to see promotion secured with a 2-0 win over Grimsby Town at a fervent Lamex Stadium.
"What a day it's been," he said. "I joined this club two and a half years ago and some people asked me why.
"We were second bottom the day I joined but Revs done a terrific job and kept us up.
"Last season was difficult but we’ve gone from relegation favourites this year to promotion.
"Everyone had their bad thoughts about us but I’ll tell you what, what a group of lads and what a day to do it.
"The sun is shining, I’m a Stevenage boy and it's brilliant, it's absolutely brilliant.
"I’ve got friends who are fans, I've got people I'm really close to who have seen what is happening in the town and they’ve messaged me to say they can’t believe how many kids all of a sudden are Stevenage fans.
"We're going from crowds of 2,500 to somewhere over 6,000 today and it just shows the difference it makes if you are successful.
"We’ve had some really dark days these last few years but to be 66-1 to get promoted, I think it is brilliant.
"The gaffer has done a terrific job and the lads in the dressing room, I’ve been a pro for 11 or 12 years and this is the best changing room I've ever been in by a country mile.
"Every single one of them lads will run through a brick wall for the others and that's the reason we got promoted this year."
Norris reflected on the character in the squad to come through a torrid month in February, one that saw them take just one win in six, another loss following in the first game in March too.
He said: "Fair play to Leyton Orient, they are champions and they were the best team over 46 games.
"But we played them off the park here and then out of nowhere we hit a blip and I think every single person, and even a few fans were thinking what is happening?
"But to come through that, we got a few good results and we got it over the line.
"I didn't care how we won the game and Stevenage now have League One football.
"The club deserves it and the fans deserve it. It’s brilliant."
He would have rather been playing in the sunshine than stuck in the stands but was still able to join in the post-match celebrations and now wants them to finish on another high.
"I was devastated not to be playing," he admitted. "Obviously I've picked up this injury at the worst time and watching the first half was tough.
"I was looking at the results and I'm seeing Stockport 2-0 up in 10 minutes and then Bradford were winning.
"[We were] a bit nervous but once we calmed down and regrouped, the lads were unreal in the second half. You can’t ask for any more.
"We had to focus on ourselves, that's all we had to do. We knew if we won, we’d go up and we did.
"We're going to have a good night tonight and hopefully we can get a few guys travelling to Barrow away.
"We've still got one game to play and second place to play for and that’s no less than we deserve this year."
