Planning applications for two phone masts have been submitted to Stevenage Borough Council.
The first is to erect a 15-metre-high phone mast in Chells Way, Stevenage, next to 1 The Glebe.
Applicant CK Hutchinson Networks (UK) Ltd says there is "a specific requirement for a new mast on the footway of Chells Way, to ensure the latest high-quality 3G and 4G service provision can be provided" by the company, as well as new 5G coverage at this location.
The application says "the current massive shift in user demand from city centres and places of work to residential areas and suburbs" has left "this area of Chells struggling to cope with demand".

The second application is for a 15-metre-high 5G phone mast at the junction of Fairlands Way and Bedwell Crescent in Stevenage.
Applicant Cignal Infrastructure UK says "there is an acute need for a new base station to provide effective service coverage", and that a new mast in the proposed location "will assimilate well into the immediate street scene and not be detrimental".
