After more than six months of demolition work, the vast Icon office building in Stevenage has now been razed to the ground and reduced to rubble.

Once the rubble is cleared, construction work will begin on developing seven tower blocks of flats up to 16 storeys high.

Stevenage Borough Council refused planning permission for the 576 flats, concerned about the height, design and appearance of the development, and that the project would be "an over development of the site".

The local authority also raised concerns over the "demand on the infrastructure", but two subsequent public inquiries found in the developer's favour.

The Lytton Way Icon building - known locally as 'the eagle', due to its shape - had been vacant for years.
