Two drink drivers have been sentenced after being stopped by police in North Herts while over the legal alcohol limit.
Maurice Clarke, 48, of Gernon Road, Letchworth, was stopped by members of the North Herts Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) on Saturday, July 6, after officers witnessed poor driving.
At Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Monday (December 2), he pleaded guilty to driving while over the alcohol limit and using a motor vehicle without a MOT.
He was fined £1,250 in total, including a £100 fine for having no MOT, and disqualified from driving for 18 months.
In a separate incident, T-Jay Cleverly, 30, of Lymans Road, Arlesey, Bedfordshire, was also seen driving poorly by North Herts officers on Friday, October 18, on Cambridge Road, Hitchin.
He was stopped and arrested on suspicion of driving while over the alcohol limit and driving without insurance.
After being charged he pleaded guilty at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 11, to both offences, fined £505 and disqualified from driving for 14 months.

PC Michael Hoare, of the North Herts NPT, said: “Officers are out and about ensuring people are abiding to the laws of the road and not drinking and/or taking drugs and driving.
“At this time of year during festive celebrations our advice is always to avoid alcohol if you are driving. Alcohol impairs your judgement and makes reactions slower, which significantly increases the chance of being involved in a collision.
“Please also keep in mind that you may still be over the drink drive limit the morning after a night out.
“We want everyone to enjoy the festivities and you can find out more about our work to keep people safe as part of our seasonal campaign Op Advisory on our website.”
