The A1(M) has now reopened following emergency resurfacing works after a major crash at Stevenage yesterday (Monday).
Shortly after 6.15am yesterday, a green Renault Megane overtook a HGV and lost control, entering the grass verge before hitting a barrier at high speed.
Emergency services attended, and the road was closed northbound between junctions 8 and 9.
Both the driver, a man aged in his 40s, and the passenger, a seven-year-old boy, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The crash involved a vehicle fire, fuel spillage and barrier damage.
The A1(M) has now reopened following emergency resurfacing works, and there are no traffic delays.
