Police are appealing for witnesses, information and dash cam footage following a serious road traffic collision on the A1(M) today (Monday).
Shortly after 6.15am, a green Renault Megane travelling northbound on the A1(M) between junction 8 and 9, after overtaking a HGV entered a grass verge and lost control before hitting a barrier at high speed.
Emergency services attended, and road closures remain in place on the A1(M).
Both the driver, a man aged in his 40s, and his passenger, a seven-year-old boy, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Sergeant Luke Jenkins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "Our enquiries are continuing, and I am urging anyone with information to please get in touch.
"If you saw anything, or have any further information, please contact police. Additionally, if you were driving in the area at the time and have a dash cam fitted, then please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage. This can be uploaded at orlo.uk/Pg4jj.
“The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend, and it remains closed this evening to allow Highways to clear the scene. I’d like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation throughout.”
You can report information online at orlo.uk/hyHzo, speak to an operator in the Force Communications Room via the online web chat at orlo.uk/EdopW, or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting Op Trifold.
