A witness appeal has been launched after a serious collision on the A1(M) near Stevenage this morning.

Shortly after 6.15am today (Monday, December 2), a green Renault Megane overtook a HGV and lost control, entering the grass verge before hitting a barrier high speed.

Emergency services attended, and road closures remain in place on the A1(M).

Both the driver, a man aged in his 40s, and the passenger, a seven-year-old boy - who were travelling northbound - were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Sergeant Luke Jenkins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and I am urging anyone with information to please get in touch.

“If you saw anything, or have any further information, please contact police. Additionally, if you were driving in the area at the time and have a dash cam fitted then please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage.

"This can be uploaded at herts.police.uk/dashcamupload, and I can also be emailed with any information via luke.jenkins@herts.police.uk.
