Currently, there are major delays on train services between Steveange and London, but what is causing the disruption?

Issues began around midday as Thameslink reported a "safety inspection" which was causing trains to run at a "reduced speed" between Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City.

A statement on their website read: "Earlier on this afternoon, a train came to a stop in the Knebworth area due to the pantograph not operating properly. This caused significant congestion in this area, affecting multiple train operating companies, including Great Northern and Thameslink.

"Pantographs are roof-mounted devices which allow trains to collect electricity from the overhead wires."

Since this further disruption has occurred.

Delays are now expected until the end of the day, as another train in the Stevenage area developed a fault "operating their doors".

"This has further impacted our services, resulting in cancellations and delays across this section of network. Both incident trains have moved, with service recovery under way." A statement from the train company added.

In a new post on X Thameslink said: "This disruption is now expected to affect trains until the end of the day.

"If you are travelling this evening, you will need to allow extra time (roughly 45mins) extra, to complete your journey when in the highlighted area." The post added.

The following lines are affected:

  • Cambridge to London Kings Cross, and Letchworth Garden City to London Kings Cross will fail to call at Knebworth and Welwyn North in the direction of London.
  • If you require these stations, please continue to Hatfield, where you can alight here and travel on services towards Cambridge/Letchworth Garden City to reach these stations.
  • Kings Lynn to London Kings Cross will only run between Kings Lynn and Cambridge. You can use your ticket on alternative services towards London from Cambridge
