North Herts Police caught two drivers simultaneously as they spotted them both using mobiles behind the wheel.
On Tuesday (November 12), police were patrolling Hitchin when multiple drivers were caught texting while on the move - one car was seized.
PC Josh Rutland and PC Will Cox, from the Hitchin Neighbourhood Policing Team, were on routine foot patrol when a BMW drove past while the driver was using his mobile phone.
It then transpired the driver held no valid insurance.
The vehicle was seized, and the driver reported for both offences. He can expect 12 points and a subsequent disqualification, alongside £500 in fines.
While completing the paperwork for the first driver, a second vehicle drove past, using his mobile phone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver reported. He can expect six points and a £200 fine.
PC Rutland said: “Traffic offences are routinely identified as a key concern for residents in Hitchin, and as such the Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to take a robust approach.”
