Plans have been submitted that would see agricultural buildings make way for nine new homes.

An application has been submitted to North Herts District Council to build the new dwellings at Fear End in Fears Green, Sandon.

The site is currently a farmyard consisting of six former agricultural buildings, formerly used for housing pigs.

Under the plans, the barns would be developed into new housing units.

The first building would become a three bedroom home with a large open plan kitchen, living room and diner all contained on the ground floor.

Other housing would include:

  • A small single bed house with a kitchen, study and dining room.
  • A pair of mirrored two bedroom homes.
  • Two three bedroom homes.
  • A small single bed unit with a kitchen and open living room.

A planning statement accompanying the application says: "The barn is set in a quiet location with excellent levels of amenity.

"The site is not currently in use for any intensive agricultural purposes, and this proposal would permanently cease any such use."

It goes on to say: "The proposed change of use of the barns into residential dwellings is considered entirely practical and desirable, providing nine dwellings that meet current local housing needs."

The plans can be viewed and commented on until November 30.
