A Baldock day nursery is celebrating an improved Ofsted rating following its latest inspection.

Staff at Puddleducks Day Nursery in Hitchin Street are "delighted" after being rated 'good' by the education watchdog.

Its latest report, published on October 25, stated that "children enthusiastically embrace the activities and resources that staff provide to help them explore and learn".

The early years setting was marked as good in all areas: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.

Staff had been working hard following its previous inspection in November 2023, where the nursery was rated as 'requires improvement'.

A spokesperson for Puddleducks said: "We are delighted to share that we have been awarded 'good' in our latest Ofsted inspection which took place on September 19, 2024.

"Over the last 10 months we have been working hard to fully embed our curriculum and we are proud of our staff team for their hard work and we would like to thank all of our families for their continued support."

Ofsted inspectors noted that: "Since their last inspection, the provider, managers and staff have worked hard across the nursery to fully embed an effective curriculum that supports children to build on what they already know and understand."

"Partnerships with parents are good. Parents report that leaders and staff are 'highly approachable', and feel that their voices are heard," it adds.

"Staff update parents about their child's day during collection and drop off times. They also send regular information about children's care through a secure electronic app.

"Termly reports help staff to share children's progress.

"They share ideas for parents to help support children's next steps in learning at home in addition to the activities that staff provide in the nursery. This contributes to consistency in children's care and education."

Ofsted noted that in order to improve further, the nursery should "support staff to recognise when to add even more targeted challenges to children's self-chosen play and investigations", and "encourage staff to consistently help children to develop a strong understanding of why it is important to follow the positive health and hygiene routines that are in place".
