Plans to build 38 homes at a former depot have been recommended for approval with a final decision due next week.

On Tuesday (October 29), Stevenage Borough Council will consider a proposal to create the development on a site known as Cartref, in Symonds Green, which would see 26 four-bedroom homes constructed alongside well as 12 one- and two-bedroom flats within a three-storey block .

Each semi-detached property would have two parking spaces and electric charging points. Most existing trees on the site would be retained.

Ahead of the meeting, council officers have recommended that planning permission should be granted but the final decision will be down to the councillors on the planning and development committee during the meeting.

Officers' report said that the homes would make a “strong contribution” to the area’s housing supply, including “much needed” family homes.

It added that the impact on neighbouring properties and refuse collection would be acceptable and the quality of living standards for future occupiers would be up to standard.

The site is just off Redcar Drive and Clovelly Way, and most of the development would be served by a new road junction with Clovelly Way. It is largely grassland and was formerly used as a depot for council contractors.
