A number of council housing developments are currently under way, set to increase in Stevenage to help meet the demand for council homes.
Dunn Close, which is under construction, is due to open in 2025 and will be able to provide 21 one, two and three-bedroom apartments as well as six one-bedroom apartments for residents who require supported living.
Brodie Court was recently delivered by Stevenage Borough Council’s Housing Development team, and provides 88 one and two-bedroom apartments with a council-let independent living scheme.
Cllr Jackie Hollywell, portfolio holder for housing and housing development said: “Independent living schemes provide the perfect opportunity for our older residents to move into a place where they are safe and well looked after for years to come.
“As a council it’s important for us to ensure all our tenants are in the right-sized homes for them and I would encourage anyone under-occupying, facing larger bills and bedroom tax on top to seriously consider the downsizing scheme which we offer.”
Independent living schemes like Brodie Court are a way for council tenants over 60 to move somewhere that is comfortable and safe with support staff 24/7, while also helping to make larger properties available for families in need of homes.
