Everyone Active has apologised to customers after complaints about "disgusting" changing rooms at Hitchin swimming pool.

Last week, a customer raised concerns about mud, hair and leaves on the floor, describing the changing rooms at the Fishponds Road site as "absolutely disgusting".

Now, operator Everyone Active has issued an apology to customers in an email seen by the Comet.

"We are aware that the flooring in the changing rooms at Hitchin Swimming and Fitness Centre is in need of replacement, and we sincerely appreciate your patience during this time.

"The original flooring was replaced this summer due to necessary upgrades.

"Unfortunately, the current floor does not meet our standards and is unsuitable for this high-traffic area. We have implemented additional cleaning procedures to maintain cleanliness but we appreciate that the floor is not fit for purpose.

"A complete refurbishment of the changing rooms is scheduled for early next year. This refurbishment will include appropriate flooring replacement. It will follow the gym renovation at Hitchin, which is set for December.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your support and understanding."
