A pre-school in Stevenage where children "are eager to get involved with the varied activities" has been rated good in all areas by Ofsted.

"Children show that they feel safe and happy as they arrive" at Bunnies Pre-school in Great Ashby, Ofsted notes in its inspection report, adding: "They are eager to get involved with the varied activities that are on offer."

The report says that there is "an ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum for children", which "focuses on meeting the individual cohort of children and their knowledge of families and the community".

It highlights how "staff skilfully adapt their teaching according to children's differing abilities", and how "popular books are used over time, skilfully interwoven through planned activities".

Meanwhile, "children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) make good progress from their starting points," Ofsted said.

"Staff work closely with parents and other professionals to provide children with SEND targeted support plans to help them make the best possible progress."

The education watchdog said: "Staff know the children well and provide them with a range of activities that reflect their interests and introduce them to new knowledge.

"However, on occasions, rigid routines, such as adult-led learning opportunities, prevent children from continuing to participate in the activities they are enjoying. This limits children from becoming deeply engaged in their chosen play."

The report highlights how: "The provider and staff are dedicated to their roles, and they work very well together and consistently reflect on their practice.

"They clearly understand the setting's strengths and areas for improvement, and they work diligently to create a welcoming environment."

In terms of room for improvement, Ofsted said the pre-school should "refine the routines of adult-led learning opportunities to enable children to continue with their chosen play", and "support children to gain a better understanding of the impact their behaviour may have on others".

Preschool leader Zoe Wilson said: "Thank you to all of our Bunnies and their families for their support and kind words during the inspection, and for their ongoing commitment to our pre-school.

"Also, a big thank you goes to our amazing staff team - Rachel, Viktoria, Grace, Alice, Faye, Dani, Jen, Lillie and Emma - for all their dedicated enthusiasm and hard work.

"The team are all instrumental in making the pre-school the happy community that we all enjoy coming to every day."
