Litter pickers braved wind and rain to take part in Hitchin Forum's Big Autumn Clean-Up.

Volunteers gathered on Sunday, October 20 to collect litter from 18 different areas around Hitchin.

Hitchin Forum co-chair Bill Sellicks said: "Younger members of the community made a strong contribution.

"Holy Saviour Guides turned out in force to clear the Dell as usual, although I’m told they did not recover any interesting finds this time – they usually find something bizarre.

"Thanks are particularly due to the leaders of these groups for their tireless dedication and organisation.

"Members of the Bubbleworks Community running group cleared roadside locations and Hitchin Tennis Club members again worked hard at Bancroft.

"On an individual note, one volunteer, having seen the forecast, concentrated on an area of Windmill Hill on Friday, taking away 4.5kg of litter and recycling.

"Not only that, but she provided a helpful map of where she had worked so that other volunteers could concentrate their efforts elsewhere!"

The Forum thanked Hitchin Information Office, the Town Centre Rangers and North Herts Council's contractors for their support.
