There are plans to open a new building society branch in Stevenage town centre, bucking the trend of high street banks closing.
Leeds Building Society is planning to take over a vacant unit in Queensway that was previously occupied by a groceries store.
A planning application to replace the existing "tired" shopfront and "provide improved disabled access into the building" has been approved by Stevenage Borough Council.
A design and access statement accompanying the application says: "The proposed replacement of the existing shopfront, including the associated signage and branding, will not only enhance accessibility, but also contribute positively to the character and usability of the retail unit.
"In addition, the street scene will benefit from the improved shopfront, which will be in keeping with the more recently refurbished neighbouring units."
