A section of the A1(M) has now reopened this afternoon (October 11) after a five-vehicle crash near Stevenage.
Both the Northbound and Southbound carriageway were closed following the pile-up between Junction 6 for Welwyn and Junction 7 for Stevenage at around 11.55am, with emergency services at the scene.
National Highways were also reporting that a "fuel spillage" had taken place which led to the road being closed for an extended length of time, but it has since reopened.
"An incident was reported to us at 12.02pm where five vehicles were involved in a road traffic collision," said a spokesperson for National Highways.
"They have since been moved to the hard shoulder and some fuel spillage still needs to be to cleaned up before a full re-opening."
Herts police has confirmed that no injuries have been suffered, but motorists should continue to avoid the area while the closure is in place.
"Police were called at 11.55am following reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the A1(M) in Stevenage," a spokesperson said.
"Officers attended, and a full road closure is in place between Junction 6 and 7.
"No injuries have been reported.
"Motorists are asked to please avoid the area and to seek an alternative route."
