The annual ‘Great Big Walk’ in Hertfordshire has raised £73,594 for 12 children’s charities.

On September 28 more than 300 walkers joined Helping Herts for their annual Great Big Walk in the county's countryside.

The money raised will help to make a difference for the 12 charities which include Grove Cottage, Hertfordshire Mind Network, Home-Start Herts, Herts Young Homeless, The OLLIE Foundation, Phoenix Group for Deaf Children and Adults, Playskill, Coram Life Education, Space Hertfordshire, For Baby’s Sake, CHEXS and Keech Hospice Care.

Jim Tatchell, co-founder of Helping Herts, said: "It was a lovely day to be out walking with our team and charity partners, knowing we were all working together for such a meaningful cause.

“The Hertfordshire Way gave us some stunning views, and it was a great reminder of what’s so special about our county.”

“We’re so thankful to everyone who made this event possible – from the volunteers who gave their time to the sponsors who supported us.

“We’re already looking forward to next year and hope to raise even more for these fantastic charities."

Participants covered circa 160 miles between them around Hertfordshire with walkers going through St Albans, Royston, Codicote and Bishops Stortford.

A variety of walkers attended the event, including staff from Helping Herts, volunteers and individual supporters with a age rang of 10 to 80.

As donations are still coming in, Helping Herts is aiming to hit its final fundraising target of £80,000.
