A one-vehicle crash on the A1(M) northbound has resulted in a casualty and major delays between Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City.

At 10.50am, a vehicle overturned after reportedly colliding with a road sign.

Herts Fire and Rescue assisted the ambulance with a casualty.

A spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called just before 10.45am to a road traffic collision on the northbound A1 near junction 7.

"Two ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene. One patient was transported to the Lister Hospital for treatment for minor injuries."

National Highways East said: "All lanes are now open on the A1(M) northbound between J6 and J7 near Welwyn following a collision involving an overturned vehicle.

"Please allow extra time if travelling in the area as delays of 25 minutes and approximately two miles of congestion remains."

The AA have said there is still "very slow traffic" due to an earlier rolled over vehicle on A1(M) Northbound from J6 A1000 Welwyn By Pass Road (Welwyn / Welwyn Garden City) to J7 A602 Broadhall Way (Stevenage South).

Traffic is also slow southbound due to onlooking vehicles.

Currently, there are also delays in both directions on the Knebworth B197 Stevenage Road due to the collision.
