Engineers are working to reopen the A1(M) amid a problem with Hatfield Tunnel.
At around 2.44am today (September 28), National Highways confirmed that the motorway had been shut between junction 3 and junction 4 northbound as well as between junction 4 and junction 2 southbound.
It has been caused by an electrical issue affecting Hatfield Tunnel.

Motorists have been urged to plan ahead before any journeys that would ordinarily use the route and expect delays.
“Our engineers are currently in attendance working to rectify the issue,” a spokesperson added.
Two diversion routes have been made, for northbound and southbound journeys.
Update: The tunnel has since reopened
The #A1M in #Hertfordshire is now OPEN both ways between J2 & J4 following the earlier electrical fault in Hatfield Tunnel.
