North Herts police has announced its latest list of priorities, including tackling shoplifting, speeding and e-scooters.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have set their policing priorities using community submissions to target crime in Letchworth, Hitchin, Royston and the surrounding areas.
These priorities are set based on public information provided via the force’s community feedback forum ‘echo’, as well as an analysis of crime data.
The local priorities are as follows:
Hitchin Urban
- Shoplifting and retail crime in Hitchin Town Centre
- Speeding, particularly in Redhill Road, Fishponds Road and Nightingale Road
Hitchin Rural
- Fly-tipping in Breachwood Green
- Speeding, particularly in High Street, Kimpton and High Street, Codicote
Letchworth and Baldock
- Unlawful use of e-scooters in Letchworth Town Centre
- Youth engagement in Letchworth Garden City to assist a reduction of anti-social behaviours (ASB)
- Speeding, particularly on London Road, Baldock and Icknield Way, Bedford Road and Pixmore Way in Letchworth
Royston
- Youth-related ASB
- Speeding on Newmarket Road, Royston and High Street, Ashwell
Neighbourhood Inspector James Lant said: “I’d like to thank everyone who gave us their views, your feedback is so important and helps us ensure we’re focusing our efforts on what matters most to local people.”
“Shoplifting has been added as a priority for Hitchin and we have a focus on tackling this issue across North Herts,” he added. “It is vital our shops continue to report any issues to us, provide statements and CCTV evidence to support prosecutions.”
