Planning permission for a new advertising billboard beside the A602, in Stevenage has been approved.
On Monday, September 23, plans to install a non-illuminated advertising billboard were approved by Stevenage Borough Council's planning committee.
The billboard will be placed on a plot of land north of the Railway station multi-storey car park, at the edge of the roundabout facing traffic using the Lytton Way roundabout.
Permission has been sought to advertise from Thursday, September 26, 2024 for the next five years until the same date in 2029.
A decision notice states no advertisement is to be displayed without the permission of the owner of the site or any other person with an interest in the site entitled to grant permission.
It adds: "No advertisement shall be sited or displayed so as to:
- "Endanger persons using any highway, railway, waterway, dock, harbour or aerodrome (civil or military)
- "Obscure, or hinder the ready interpretation of, any traffic sign, railway signal or aid to navigation by water or air.
- "Or hinder the operation of any device used for the purpose of security or surveillance or for measuring the speed of any vehicle."
Hertfordshire County Council's highway authority also did not wish to "restrict the grant of permission".
The sign was deemed "maintainable" by the authority due to the 40mph speed limit and that there have been only 17 recorded accidents near the site in a rolling five-year period.
CP Media revealed a detailed plan for the hoarding which will stand at 4,500x6,500mm.
The proposal includes a 48 sheet advertising billboard site using "featheredge timber" with a paint finish.
Using 75x175 timber posts, 75x50 timber rails and the structure will feature four vertical posts installed to a depth of approximately 1100mm into the ground - secured with concrete.
CP Media have previously designed billboards outside Wembley Stadium, London Northeastern Railways and B&Q.
