A planning application has been submitted to replace an iconic leisure centre sign in Letchworth.

The stone sign outside North Hertfordshire Leisure Centre in Baldock Road is a recognisable landmark in the town, but it could soon go if plans from Everyone Active are approved.

Everyone Active took control of leisure facilities in North Herts on a 10-year contract earlier this year, running the Letchworth site, as well as Hitchin Swimming and Fitness Centre, Royston Leisure Centre, Letchworth Lido and Fearnhill Sports Centre.

The proposed sign would be a V-shaped design, coloured in a bright red and feature the logo of the new operator.

Promotional banners outside the leisure centre would also be replaced with wooden frame signage that allowed for interchangeable advertising.

"The existing brick structure is to be removed and levelled to the existing concrete base, in line with surrounding grass area," the application reads.
