A main road in Hitchin is currently closed due to flooding, after the town was hit with heavy rain during the last 24 hours.

Cambridge Road is closed due to flooding under the railway bridge, with Hertfordshire Highways advising drivers to avoid the area and use other routes.

(Image: Bianca Wild) Several other areas of the town are also flooded, including businesses, with staff at the Craft and Cleaver in Bancroft forced to evacuate the restaurant.

Manager Adam Richardson said it was "a tough night, but my team have been incredible in getting most of the water out, and fingers crossed we can get open again for midweek."
