An investigation has been launched to establish the cause of a fire at a recycling centre in Hitchin last night (September 19).
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 10:31pm following reports of a vehicle on fire at Global Ardour Recycling Limited in Wallace Way.
Five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene, where crews found a large fire involving a lorry, eight cars and two storage units containing tyres.
Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control, and remained at the scene until 2.45am.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mark Barber, has confirmed that no one was injured in the blaze, and that an investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.

"Our firefighters worked hard overnight to contain and extinguish a fire in a scrapyard in Wallace Way in Hitchin.
"This was a large fire involving a number of vehicles and stored tyres. Firefighters did an excellent job bringing it under control in challenging circumstances.
"Fortunately nobody was injured and this morning we are working with the site owners to establish the cause of the fire."
This is now the fourth fire at the industrial estate in less than a year, after blazes in December 2023, as well as March and July this year at the Nationwide Metal Centre in nearby Cadwell Lane.
