Opinions are being sought on the Grange Recreation Ground in Letchworth, and what can be done to improve it, as part of plans for a 900-home development.
Landowner Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation wants to build 900 homes, a local centre and a school on 45 hectares of agricultural land next to the Grange Estate, and the masterplan for the development was approved by North Herts Council in July.
Now, the council is looking at what improvements can be made to the Grange Rec as part of the proposed development, and has launched a short online public survey.
Money from anticipated s106 agreements, whereby the developers of new homes have to contribute financially towards community facilities, will help fund future improvements.
The Grange Rec is 6.7 hectares of land owned by the council, with facilities including children’s play equipment, a skatepark, basketball court/multi-use games area, outdoor gym, football pitches and changing rooms.
Councillor Mick Debenham, executive member for environment, leisure and green spaces at North Herts Council, said: "The survey covers questions on facilities, safety and access, to help give us an idea of what the community think of the area.
"We want to know what elements are important to you and your family, so we can assess the impact of current facilities and identify community priorities.
"The recreational ground is an important asset to the Grange and surrounding area, which will serve new and existing residents into the future."
There will be further consultation in the new year, with more detailed discussions with residents and local groups.
To complete the online survey, visit tinyurl.com/2eb8vttx by Friday, October 18. It should take about five minutes to complete.
