An Oasis superfan from Stevenage has offered to return a special gift given to him by Liam Gallagher as a teenager, in exchange for tickets to one of the band's reunion shows.
Liam and Noel stunned the music world last week when they announced that Oasis would be returning for the first time since 2009, with shows set to be held in the UK and Ireland next July and August.
The revelation sent fans into a frenzy and sparked a desperate rush for the precious tickets, but superfan Anthony Lanni was not among the luck few as he missed out.
Now, the 43-year-old dad-of-three from Stevenage is offering to return an incredible gift given to him by frontman Liam Gallagher when he was just 15.
Back in 1996, Anthony and a group of friends discovered Liam's address and headed to his home in St John's Wood, London.
"We went round there and knocked on the door. He appeared at the window and looked really annoyed," Anthony told The Comet.
"He was gesticulating with his hands and then we realised he was asking us for a cigarette. He then came to the door and spoke to us."
It was at this point when Anthony decided to chance his arm with a "cheeky" request, continuing: "I noticed these gold and platinum discs up on the wall in the hallway.
"Being cheeky, I said to him 'Liam, let me have one of those discs'. He looked at the discs, then looked at me and back at the discs again. He took one off the wall and gave it to me.
"I thought he was just going to let me look at it, then he said 'if you don’t ask, you don’t get'. I just couldn't believe it."
Liam had handed over a disc awarded to Oasis for selling 110,000 copies of What’s the Story Morning Glory in Ireland, with Anthony rushing to a nearby shop to wrap his precious cargo in newspaper.
The Oasis frontman wasn't done with him though, with Anthony adding: "Someone came running into the shop and said 'Liam wants you to go back to the house'.
"I went back, knocked on the door and he let me into the house. He sat me down and said 'look, I’ve done this nice thing for you, don’t go selling it'. I promised him I wouldn't and I still have it to this day."
Anthony - who turns 44 on July 30 when Oasis play Wembley - has proposed a swap with Gallagher, offering to return his disc almost 30 years later in exchange for tickets to one of the band's reunion shows.
"My friends and I were really annoyed that we didn’t get tickets at the weekend because we are the original Oasis fans," he said.
"I thought it might be fun to give the disc back to Liam and get tickets in exchange.
"Oasis means so much to me. They were my childhood. I brought all the albums, all the singles and went to as many gigs as I could. I’m devastated that I can’t go, so to be able to get tickets would mean absolutely everything to me.
"I know people who have spent £400 or £500 on tickets because this could be a once in a lifetime thing."
