Labour MP for Hitchin Alistair Strathern visited homeless support service Feed Up Warm Up in Hitchin town centre this week.
Mr Strathern met with the organisation’s two dozen volunteers and talked with the many vulnerable, homeless people at their weekly drop-in session.
He said: “I was moved to visit Feed Up Warm Up and see the amazing work that volunteers do to support the most vulnerable people in Hitchin.
“The work they do is frankly invaluable, and we must all support Feed Up Warm Up and similar homeless shelters."
Feed Up, Warm Up is a charity based at Our Lady Immaculate and St Andrew Catholic Church on Grove Road, Hitchin.
They also run a weekly service in Stevenage.
Every Wednesday night they provide a full, warm and nutritious meal for as many as 50 homeless people. They also hand out with tents, sleeping bags and give administrative support.
For the most vulnerable they also supply funded hotel stays.
MP Strathern described how he wishes to see the “end” of homelessness and rough sleeping in Hitchin and across the country.
“I welcome Labour’s plan to develop a new cross-government strategy, working with councils here to put Britain back on track to ending homelessness for good,” he said.
The charity is supported by business sponsorship and donations therefore, Mr Strathern encourages everyone to donate.
