Planes take to the skies at Imperial War Museum Duxford

On Saturday, August 17, visitors to Duxford enjoyed after-hours entry to some of the museum's most popular hangars and exhibits, as well as stunning displays featuring warbirds, pyrotechnics and more.

Among the planes in the air were Spitfires, Thunderbolts, a de Havilland Vampire and a Sally B Flying Fortress.

Aviation photographer Gary Brown captured these photos during his visit to Duxford.

Upcoming events at IWM Duxford include the Battle of Britain Air Show on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.

The Flying Days: 19 Squadron event will take place on Saturday, August 31, with an afternoon display telling the story of the legendary 19 Squadron - the fighter pilots who made Spitfire history at Dunkirk and throughout the Battle of Britain.

Duxford's Flying Finale will be held on Saturday, October 5 as a grand send-off for the 2024 flying season.

IWM Duxford played a major role in some of the most dramatic days of the 20th century - serving as a base for many Spitfire and Hurricane pilots during the Second World War.
