A 14th-century Grade II-listed country home near Stevenage has hit the market for £1.15 million.

The property, known as Fox Cottage, sits on Long Lane in Aston End and is said to have "substantial grounds" which extend to five acres.

The estate agent, Putterills, said the original cottage is believed to date back to the 14th century, with a significant extension added in 1972.

The extension turned the cottage into two homes, providing "great scope and potential" for multi-generational living.

The estate agent said Fox Cottage, which was listed for sale on August 5, could easily be reverted back into one family home, subject to planning and listed building consent.

The property currently has five bedrooms, two bathrooms, three reception rooms, and two kitchens, all spread across approximately 2,400 sq ft of living space.

Putterills said: "The property enjoys a secluded position set back from Long Lane on the outskirts of Aston End within this desirable semi-rural hamlet location whilst being only three miles from Stevenage town centre and all the local amenities the town has to offer including a fast train link direct to London Kings Cross with a journey time of approximately 23 minutes."

Fox Cottage is also said to have equestrian potential, with the extensive grounds suitable for micro-farming, horticultural, and small-holding interests.

The vendor added that the outbuildings on the grounds, which are in a "poor state of repair", have been retained in their condition so that if one were to re-build them, no planning consent would be required.

A conversation with a planner was also said to have indicated that they would look favourably on a request to alter the appearance of the 1970s section of the house.

The property is served by mains drainage and water, with oil-fired central heating.
