A healthcare watchdog has raised concerns about "unexplained injuries" at a Stevenage care home, following an unannounced inspection.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found a breach of regulation when it visited Wisden Court residential care home, and said the service "requires improvement" when it comes to being safe.
Wisden Court is currently rated good overall by the CQC, with the watchdog recognising that "staffing levels were sufficient and people’s needs were met in a timely manner".
In an inspection report published on July 25, the CQC says: "Robust recruitment practices were followed, and staff received a range of training to support them in their roles.
"We observed all areas of the service to be well maintained, with equipment in use routinely serviced to ensure safety."
However, the CQC found "unexplained injuries" and a breach of regulation.
"We found unexplained injuries that had not been accurately recorded or referred to the local authority as potential safeguarding concerns," the report says.
"This was a breach of regulation, and the service remains rated 'requires improvement' in the safe domain.
"The provider had a system of audit and checks in place. Where these had not identified the lack of oversight regarding unexplained injuries, the regional director took immediate action to investigate where shortfalls had occurred, took remedial action and implemented measures to prevent reoccurrence.
"Risk assessments were routinely completed and reviewed for all aspects of people’s care.
"Where we observed people receiving care which was not in line with their assessed needs, the registered manager took immediate action once informed."
When Wisden Court was last inspected by the CQC, in 2019, a breach in regulation was found then, due to "people's safety not being robustly promoted".
In its report last month, the CQC said it had "found some improvements had been made in relation to risk management".
Residents told the CQC that they felt safe living at Wisden Court and had no concerns or worries. People described staff as being kind and felt they were attentive, with staff responsive and meeting their needs.
The CQC has asked Wisden Court for an action plan in response to the concerns found at the latest inspection.
The Comet contacted Wisden Court, but the care home declined to comment.
