Two men from Hitchin have been charged and remanded in custody after being arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Tarek Belakehal, 20, of Redhill Road in Hitchin and Kamarley Jones-Ebanks, 22, of Highover Way in Hitchin, were in a grey Volkswagen Golf in Ickleford's St Katherine's Close when they were stopped by police officers shortly before 7pm on Thursday (July 11).

Officers searched the vehicle, finding suspected class A drugs and an imitation firearm.

Both men were arrested, and later charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs and carrying an imitation firearm in a public place.

They are due to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday, August 12.

Detective Sergeant Sam Casey, of the North Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “Thanks to the proactive work of officers in North Herts a quantity of class A drugs are now off our streets.

“We rely on the information from the public, so if you have suspicions about drug dealing in your area do report it to us so we can build up a picture of intelligence and take action.”
